Exeter are investigating after captain Danny Coles was involved in a Twitter row with supporters during England's defeat to Uruguay.
Some fans are understood to have complained to the club about the 32-year-old defender's tweets, while others expressed their shock on social media. Coles has since deleted his Twitter account. A club statement read: "Exeter City Football Club are aware of comments posted on Twitter by Danny Coles Thursday evening. "The matter will be addressed internally and the club will be making no further comment presently. "However, the club would like to apologise for any offence caused."
