Easy decision for Mirfin

Scunthorpe defender David Mirfin has targeted a return to the Championship after signing a new deal with the club.

The 29-year-old, in his second spell at Glanford Park, is excited about the future following promotion to League One and has put pen to paper on a two-year contract. "It was an easy decision," Mirfin told the club's official website. "The chairman and Russ (Wilcox) want to take this club somewhere and the club has ambitions of getting back to Championship level. "It will be a tough league next year. It will be classed a bit of a local league, a northern league, next season but there will be big games and hopefully we can get big crowds back at Glanford Park as well. "There have been a lot of changes since we were last in League One, and it is good for a club when they have that transition. "We managed to bounce straight back into League One and hopefully we can carry on the momentum we built this year. "If we can add a few new faces too, it will be a completely different squad from the one two years ago." Scunthorpe were relegated from the Championship in 2011 and dropped into League Two in 2013 before bouncing back to the third tier at the first attempt this season.
