Southend manager Phil Brown has begun talks over a new deal to keep him at Roots Hall, the club have confirmed.
The former Hull boss arrived at Roots Hall in March 2013 and, in his first full season in charge, guided the Shrimpers to the League Two play-offs. Despite missing out 3-2 on aggregate to Burton in the semi-finals, Brown is hopeful of extending his contract which is due to run out in March next year. "After a long season, in which we have had a number of positives, despite just missing out on promotion, I'm pleased with the progression we have made as a club since I came in," the 54-year-old told the club's official website. "I sat down with the chairman and chief executive on Tuesday, and again on Wednesday, to start discussing a new contract, and look to extend my stay here at Roots Hall. "I've still got a year on my current deal, so there is no rush to get it sorted, but discussions are underway. "I've enjoyed every minute of my time here so far, and am now looking to start building for next season, as we look to go and win promotion to League One."
