Hill: Dale season a success

Rochdale boss Keith Hill said his club's achievements this season will not be diminished if they miss out on the League Two title.

Dale are level on points with leaders Chesterfield but have an inferior goals difference and one point ahead of third-placed Scunthorpe going into the last game of the season. All three clubs guaranteed automatic promotion last week. Dale will go up as champions with victory at Newport if Chesterfield and Scunthorpe, who face home games against Fleetwood and York respectively, both fail to win. "The plan is to be successful at Newport," said Hill, who is the first Rochdale manager to lead the club to promotion twice after achieving the feat in 2010. "It's (winning the title) certainly the aim, but whatever happens, what we've achieved this season shouldn't be diluted," he told the club's official website. "We've got an unbelievable opportunity this weekend, but having said that, fair respect to Newport. They've had an excellent first campaign back in the league. "We've got to be respectful of Newport and we've got to be respectful of Scunthorpe and Chesterfield. "Who's to argue that any one of the three would deserve to go up as the champions. "But we've got to focus on Saturday's game. The season isn't over yet, and we're hoping to go there and put in a really good performance, which will hopefully merit and reward us with three points. "Equally, Justin Edinburgh and Newport need to be congratulated on the season that they've had."
