McMahon up for the fight

John McMahon has called for his Tranmere players to prepare for "three mountains to climb" after a 2-0 defeat at Gillingham.

Bradley Dack and Cody McDonald both netted late in the second half as the Gills bounced back from their 5-1 defeat to Leyton Orient last time out to move on to 51 points. Tranmere are two points clear of Carlisle in 19th place and McMahon is ready for the fight. "We've got to keep going," McMahon said. "The players have got to knuckle down and match the opposition mentally and physically. "If we can be two points ahead of the relegation zone come 5pm on May 3 that will do me. We've got three mountains to climb. "They are 11 bodies versus 11. Tactics, mentality and holding nerves will play a part. Ian Goodison spoke up in the dressing room and said we just need a bit more belief when things are down. "It is difficult to comprehend how we lost 2-0 after that performance and our effort and commitment. "I thought if any team was going to win the game it was us, but again, a lack of concentration cost us. "We didn't look after the ball when it was up there. "I thought their back four were physically stronger than our lads and our ball retention and decision-making needed to be better."
