Gayle delight at Daggers bow

Dagenham defender Ian Gayle has expressed his delight at making his first-team bow against Wycombe.

The 21-year-old made his Football League debut at the weekend, replacing Matthew Saunders shortly before half-time as the Daggers reshuffled following Scott Doe's dismissal. Gayle wishes his first appearance was in different circumstances - Wayne Burnett's men slipped to a 2-0 defeat - but was thrilled to have broken his duck. He told the club's official website: "I've been waiting for my chance a long time now; I've been at the club three years as a pro now and started with the youth team. It came at the right time for me, I was ready, I was up for it, it was just a waiting game for me to get my chance. "I think it was unfortunate for Scott to get sent off, he's a good lad, but in football you have to take your opportunity when it comes up, whatever the circumstances. "I was happy with my performance, but the defeat didn't feel good and whether you play well or not when you get beat, it's always disheartening."
