New role for Cresswell

Former York striker Richard Cresswell has returned to the club as a development consultant.

The 36-year-old's role will see him work on the commercial and community sides of the club, while he will also be a coaching mentor at City's academy and a matchday ambassador at Bootham Crescent. Cresswell told the club's official website: "I can't wait to get started in my new role. It's really exciting and because the job is so varied it will enable me to get involved in most areas of the club. "I'm looking forward to working again with Nigel Worthington and the club's new general manager, John McGhee. York City has a great future ahead and I want to be part of that." York chairman Jason McGill added: "Richard has a lot to offer York City Football Club and we are delighted to welcome him back. He is a very bright, enthusiastic person and wants to be part of York City's exciting future. "He will be working full-time at Bootham Crescent in a varied role. He is commercially astute, but also has a UEFA A Licence and is a technically proficient coach. "He will therefore be beneficial to the commercial, academy and community functions within the club." Cresswell started and ended his career with the Minstermen, with spells at Sheffield Wednesday, Leicester, Preston, Leeds, Stoke and Sheffield United in between. In total he made 652 appearances and scored 142 goals. He announced his retirement in December after knee and eye injuries restricted him to just eight appearances for Worthington's men.
