Jackson relieved after win

A relieved Mike Jackson wants Shrewsbury to take confidence from beating Stevenage 1-0 as the race for League One survival hots up.

The Shrews started the day bottom of the table but leapfrogged Stevenage in the battle to escape the bottom four thanks to a well-taken goal from top scorer Jon Taylor, his eighth of the season, in the 57th minute. Impressive young right-back Dominic Iorfa, on loan from Wolves, dispossessed Luke Freeman and set up Taylor to rifle a shot past Boro's otherwise unbeatable goalkeeper Chris Day. "We just have to do our business now," said Jackson, stressing the importance of the victory given that relegation rivals Carlisle, Crewe and Tranmere also won. "We knew what we had to do and now we go to Tranmere next week. We have to take a lot of confidence from it." Jackson's team had to see out the closing stages, which included seven minutes of stoppage time, with 10 men after losing midfielder Asa Hall to a second yellow card in the 83rd minute. "It was a good win," said Jackson. "It got a bit stressful towards the end. "Big credit goes to the players. Everything for me should be about them and our crowd, no-one else. It's not about me or the staff, it's about that group of players and those fans having a connection - and there was." Jackson also saluted the contribution of winger Taylor, his side's matchwinner. He added: "I said to him before the game to go and get another goal and get into double figures. For a wideman that's excellent and again he sets the tone."
