Back to basics for Dunne

Joe Dunne urged his Colchester side to cut out basic errors after Wednesday's 2-0 loss at Peterborough made it three defeats in a row.

Posh skipper Tommy Rowe headed the hosts in front after 26 minutes before Britt Assombalonga made the points safe in the 65th minute when he drilled a low shot past Sam Walker. "I've got no complaints about getting beat but once again we've aided our own downfall," said Dunne. "We felt keeping the score to 1-0 going at half-time, which we haven't been able to do in recent games, would help give us the resilience to have an opportunity in the second half. "We spoke about it during the break and had a little shape change. But then we have been punished for an obvious mistake. This has to change." The U's remain three points above the drop zone despite their recent run of defeats and Dunne sees this weekend's match against relegations rivals Tranmere as an opportunity to get back on track. He added: "The bonus for us is that the league table still looks the same. We wanted to move away from that area but we still remain with that three-point cushion. "The games that are now coming up will need everyone to stick together. If we start wallowing in the mire of what happened here then let's not bother to turn up on Saturday. "If we can beat Tranmere on Saturday then we knock a team out of it and move up the league. That's our incentive but we have to show an aggression."
