Woodards revels in fresh start

Danny Woodards says Darrell Clarke's appointment at Bristol Rovers was a shock but is a fresh start for their under-performing squad.

The 36-year-old was handed the reins last Friday having previously been the Pirates' assistant and one of his first tasks was to recall Woodards to the heart of his new-look defence. And Woodards knows he has to repeat his man of the match display from Saturday to impress Clarke ahead of next season. "We didn't know about the changes until Friday morning," he told the Bristol Evening Post. "It was a bit of a shock to us all. We know Darrell's face because we have worked with him since last summer, but he works differently to John. "We all know that we have to continue to put in the hard work and that he won't tolerate anyone trying to take liberties. It is a fresh start for everyone. "There are a lot of players out of contract at the end of the season, so these last seven games are going to be important for those of us who are trying to get a new deal. It is an interesting time."
