Johnson salutes slick Latics

Lee Johnson applauded his side for stretching their unbeaten run - but was frustrated with Oldham's 0-0 draw with Brentford.

After losing 3-0 at Rotherham in midweek the promotion-chasing Bees came under pressure for long spells against an Oldham side who are still in the relegation fight. Brentford goalkeeper David Button made a smart first-half save from Jonson Clarke-Harris before Oldham's Danny Philliskirk headed over from close range. Button also did well to parry James Wilson's header, while Gary Harkins went close and James Dayton wasted a clear chance for the Latics. Brentford's best efforts came from Clayton Donaldson and Stuart Dallas, but the visitors were unable to beat Oldham goalkeeper Paul Rachubka. Johnson said: "We deserved to win. We had the better chances and there were two stonewall penalties that I can't believe the referee didn't give. "Brentford are a good side who are up there on merit, but we were excellent and I'm proud of the players. "I thought the referee was poor, but I don't want to take anything away from the lads and the way they performed. "Our defence was good again and we looked slick on the break, so things are coming together at the business end of the season. "There's still work in front of us and we need to keep rising to the challenge, but the big frustration is that we haven't stuck the ball in the net. "Although it's important to go another game unbeaten, I'm disappointed we couldn't give the fans three points instead of one. "We look like creating chances, but someone needs to start putting them away."
