Morecambe boss Jim Bentley backed Chesterfield for promotion after seeing his side beaten 1-0 by the Spireites.
Bentley had no complaints as his side's winless run was extended to four games courtesy of Jay O'Shea's 19th-minute header. He believes Paul Cook's men, who are six points clear of fourth-placed Fleetwood in the race for automatic promotion, will be playing in Sky Bet League One next season. He said: "Chesterfield are the best side in the league in my opinion and we knew we would have to be at our best. "It was always going to be a little bit tough but we started brightly and then they got on the front foot and it was a great bit of movement for the goal. "We had to weather large spells of pressure and although you always fancy yourself to get a chance, overall they were the better side. We stuck at it and the lads gave it their all but we just came up a little bit short. "We played some all right stuff at times and while it was 1-0 you could sense a bit of nervous edge in the crowd but credit to them, they deserved the win and they will go up this year in my opinion and good luck to them."
