Edinburgh hails Exiles defence

Newport boss Justin Edinburgh was content with his side's display despite being held to a goalless draw at home to Bury.

The Exiles started slowly but grew into the game and were denied a victory that would have taken them to within seven points of the play-off places by Bury goalkeeper Brian Jensen, who denied Robbie Willmott and Chris Zebroski with impressive saves. Edinburgh was looking at the positives after the game and, in particular, had praise for his defence, who recorded a second consecutive clean sheet. "There were a lot of pleasing aspects of the game," he said. "That's back-to-back clean sheets. I thought our back four of (Darcy) Blake, (Kevin) Feely, (Andrew) Hughes and (Tom) Naylor were immense. "Darcy Blake played well but you can't overlook Kevin Feely. He was outstanding against Clive Platt who's an experienced pro and I don't think he missed a header or a tackle. Darcy looks a class act but young Kevin was brilliant." Edinburgh was also impressed by how his side overcame a lacklustre start to dominate the game. He added: "Unlike us we started slowly but credit to Bury, they started really well. They're the first team to come here and put us on the back foot, certainly from the start of the game. "Once we got ourselves a grip in the game we got much better. We took the game to them in the second half but couldn't get the goal. "They had opportunities but we'll look at it as a point gained and take positives from claiming another clean sheet."
