Flitcroft hails resilient Bury

Bury manager David Flitcroft praised his team's defensive display after they earned a crucial 0-0 draw at Newport.

The point keeps the Shakers four clear of the League Two relegation zone with seven games left. Bury skipper Craig Jones twice missed the chance to take all three points. Danny Mayor twice burst down the left in the opening minutes only for Jones to scuff his shots from six yards. But Bury goalkeeper Brian Jensen then denied Chris Zebroski and Robbie Willmott to earn a draw and deny Newport a second win in a row. Jenson stopped Zebroski's first-time effort from Willmott's curling cross. He then tipped Willmott long-range effort over the bar to ensure David Flitcroft's side remain four points clear of relegation. Flitcroft said: "The way we defended against a forceful Newport team was immaculate. It was difficult to play on that pitch and I thought we defended superbly. "We must get the balance right. I went with two strikers to try and get the stimulus to grab the first goal. If we had taken one of our early chances I would be calling it a complete performance but without that crucial goal it is only half a performance. "We have to be flexible and adaptable to whatever comes our way. "Craig Jones had a couple of opportunities, he has a real connection with &£91;Chris&£93; Hussey on the left-hand side. "Danny Mayor put a lovely ball in for Clive Platt but it was as if time stood still. I couldn't work out how his header wasn't directed towards goal. "It was about one goal, whoever could score that first goal would have gone on to win the game."
