Ainsworth ready for battle

Wycombe Wanderers boss Gareth Ainsworth came out fighting after his relegation battlers lost 1-0 at Burton Albion.

McGurk celebrated his recall to the side with the only goal in the 54th minute after being set up by Billy Kee. The result left the Chairboys just above the relegation zone head of Saturday's trip to second-placed Scunthorpe. Ainsworth said: "First half I thought we did well, but in the end the difference was their strikers. "They were sharp, you could see they have played together and they caused our back four problems. "But it could really have been a nil-nil. "We've now got to stand up and be counted and make sure we got the points we need. "We've got to fight and scrap for every point between now and the end of the season. "That starts with a huge, huge game at Scunthorpe on Saturday. "The only stroke of luck we've had is that the teams below us have not gained ground. "It's still in our own hands and we now go in to a seven-game shoot-out to stay in this league. "It's a wounded Wycombe but our objective come the end of the season is to make sure there are two teams below us in the league table." Wycombe saw plenty of the ball but it was Burton who had the better chances in the opening 45 minutes. Kee headed straight at goalkeeper Matt Ingram before McGurk fired carelessly high from 15 yards. McGurk almost made amends when he hit a post with a left-footed curler in the 32nd minute. The hosts went in front in the 54th minute when Kee's header left the unmarked McGurk with a simple finish from close range.
