Bentley urges Shrimps to build

Image: Jim Bentley: Pleased with his side

Morecambe manager Jim Bentley was a happy man after seeing his side win for the first time since Boxing Day.

A goal from substitute Jack Redshaw after 68 minutes proved enough to hand the Shrimps a 2-1 victory over Southend. Bentley said: "I wanted a response after our 5-0 hammering at Plymouth and I got it. "We have had a tough week. The lads have been in every day and we have worked them really hard and it paid dividends finally. "We made things difficult for ourselves once again, though, by conceding an early goal again but after that we rolled up our sleeves and showed great character and determination to get the points. "We never let our heads drop and I'm so pleased for everyone, the players and the fans because they have been through a tough few weeks but showed great spirit to take three vital points. "Hopefully now we can build on this and get a few more wins to secure our safety."
