Ainsworth boosted by comeback

Gareth Ainsworth was thrilled with Wycombe after they battled their way back from a goal down to beat Hartlepool 2-1 at home.

Jack Barmby had earlier given play-off chasing Hartlepool the lead before the break but Wycombe came from behind thanks to second-half goals from Dean Morgan and Matt McClure. "Their performance doesn't surprise me," Ainsworth said. "I work with these players' day in and day out and I know what they're capable of." Ainsworth reserved special praise for Leon Johnson and Anthony Stewart at the heart of his defence as they worked tirelessly to shut down opportunities for Hartlepool. "Leon used all his experience today and Anthony was outstanding at the back for us today. I don't think he missed a header and his pace can get him out of any trouble. It was an all-round great performance and I'm just really pleased. "People must have been sick with me on our 15-game-one-win-run when I kept saying that performances were there and that we weren't far away but hopefully this is proving it to people. "This is what I've been seeing throughout in training. All through those dark days of not scoring, hopefully we've come out the other side. We've still got work to do yet and we're not going to get complacent but it's a great building block. It was a real complete performance and to come back the way we did, it's a real positive."
