His Royal Highness the Duke of Kent will officially open Rotherham's New York Stadium on Tuesday, March 12.
Prince Edward, the Queen's cousin, will visit the 12,000-seater arena next Tuesday morning and unveil a memorial plaque. "Receiving a visit from the Duke of Kent is a tremendous honour and one which everyone at Rotherham United is very excited about," said chairman Tony Stewart. "The unveiling of the specially made plaque will provide the finishing touch to the New York Stadium, and it will be a proud day for the directors, myself and everyone associated with Rotherham United FC. "A royal visit to this town is a special event, therefore this is a historic day not just for the football club, but also for the borough of Rotherham. "New York is a community stadium, and to showcase the work we perform within the local community, we have invited local schools and community groups who will be taking part in activities during the day." The Millers, who played at Don Valley Stadium in Sheffield for four years after leaving Millmoor, moved into their new home in the summer and they are currently fourth in League Two.
