Pond becomes record holder

Fleetwood have a world record holder in their ranks Nathan Pond was inducted into the Guinness World Record book.

The long-serving stand-in captain clinched the accolade after featuring in League One for the Cod Army last weekend. Pond, 29, joined the club from Lancaster City in 2003 and he has been awarded the accolade for playing in the most football divisions for one club. "It's a bit of a weird feeling and it hasn't really sunk in," he told the club's official website. "I didn't expect we would go this far, we have kept on climbing up the football ladder. It is a surreal feeling to be in the Guinness World Records."The win over Crewe in League One marked the club's first ever match in the third tier, the highest in their entire 106-year history and Pond's career epitomizes the club's rise into the Football League. Pond added: "We got off to a good start against Crewe last weekend and played well on Tuesday night (lost in the Capital One Cup to Rotherham), although we didn't get the result we wanted. We go to Notts County now with a positive attitude and hopefully come back with some points." Manager Graham Alexander paid tribute to the club legend: "Pondy just gets better and better and to hold a world record in the number one sport in the world is some achievement and it shouldn't be taken lightly. "We're really pleased for him. He's a great pro as we have said on many occasions. We know he won't get affected by anything, he'll just keep his head down and get on with his work and that's what makes him the pro he is. "It's great for us as a club as well to have someone like that within our ranks and representing us. He has led the team in the last two games as well and hopefully his form and rise will continue for many few years."
