Ball eyeing first-team spot

David Ball hopes he can overcome strong competition to retain his place in the Fleetwood starting line-up.

Cod Army boss Micky Mellon brought a host of attacking talent to the Highbury Stadium ahead of the club's debut Football League season, including Ball from Peterborough, Jon Parkin and Steven Gillespie. The 20-year-old started the first three League Two games this term but fell out of the starting line-up without a goal to his name, only to return in recent weeks to bag two in three. "I've been obviously enjoying scoring a few and it's always nice to get off the mark and get your goals," Ball told Press Association Sport. "Hopefully now I can kick on for the rest of the season. "There's a lot of quality. Most of the strikers here have played at a higher level and all want to be part of the team and playing so everyone's working hard. "The manager has always said to all of us 'your chances will come for playing if you take in everything'. I feel like I'm doing that at the moment and hopefully I can kick on each game now and keep myself in the team."
