Barker calls on midfield duo

Bury boss Richie Barker has challenged midfield duo Steven Schumacher and Peter Sweeney to contribute more goals this season.

The Shakers' central duo finished the previous campaign with six and four strikes respectively. Schumacher's quest for greater sharpness got off to an inauspicious start in Tuesday night's friendly against Burnley as he missed a clear opening in each half before the Clarets left with a 1-0 win. "Steven was quite disappointed with his goal ratio when the season finished last season," said Barker. "It's something I've spoken to him and Peter Sweeney about, more than Mark Carrington really, where I think that they should be weighing in with another half a dozen goals apiece with the ability that they've got." On the Burnley game, Barker added: "You could see the way that Steven snatched at a couple of chances that we've only done a couple of finishing sessions, so that will improve and they'll start to feel more comfortable about it."
