Keith Southern has made an emotional exit from Blackpool, with the midfielder linking up with Huddersfield after 10 years at Bloomfield Road.
The 31-year-old admits it is 'gut-wrenching' to be moving on after experiencing so much with the Seasiders, but feels the time has come for him to make a fresh start.
He will forever be grateful to Blackpool for all that they have done for his career, including a memorable season-long stint in the Premier League, but is looking forward to working under a familiar face with his new employers.
Southern told the
Blackpool Gazette: "I'm leaving with a heavy heart and I'm leaving behind some of the finest people I could ever wish to meet.
Future
"Most of the dressing room at Blackpool will be friends for life.
"I'm leaving behind some magnificent people. I had to make a decision that was best for me, my family and my football future, and it just felt right.
"I don't think there would be many other clubs I'd have left Blackpool for.
"Everyone knows how much respect I have for Simon Grayson (Huddersfield manager, formerly with Blackpool).
"Time will tell whether it's the right decision but I'm getting a lot of positive vibes from Huddersfield."
Challenge
Despite agreeing a deal with the Terriers, Southern has been granted a testimonial by Blackpool and will use a date with Everton to say his farewells to a club he first joined on loan from the Toffees back in 2002.
"In ten years at the club I couldn't really ask to achieve any more," he added.
"I've played in the Premier League and had two promotions with the club.
"It was more to do with my career and my family's future.
"It's gut-wrenching to be leaving but I'm excited by the challenge."
