Young midfielder changes mind over international career

Preston midfielder Adam Barton has made a sudden U-turn and decided to play for Northern Ireland after all. The 19-year-old has been named in the squad to take on Morocco in a friendly at Windsor Park on Wednesday following several withdrawals. The Blackburn-born youngster was called up by manager Nigel Worthington for the Euro 2012 qualifiers against Italy and the Faroe Islands, but his name quickly disappeared from the list soon after. Barton said he wanted to focus on his club career and also keep his options open for England but has now had a change of heart. In addition to Barton, Andrew Little (Rangers), Michael O'Connor (Scunthorpe), Josh McQuoid (Bournemouth) and Lee Hodson (Watford) have all been drafted into the squad.
