Bury have agreed a two-year deal with midfielder Steven Schumacher following his release by Crewe.
The former Everton trainee, 26, was allowed to leave the Railwaymen at the end of last season.
Shakers boss Alan Knill has moved to secure his services with a contract for the next two terms to be signed in the coming days.
A club statement said: "Crewe's loss is Bury's gain after the player agreed to a two-year deal.
"The contracts will be signed soon."
