Bristol Rovers are optimistic of signing Crystal Palace defender Jeff Hughes on a permanent basis.

Defender likely to leave Selhurst Park

Bristol Rovers are optimistic of finalising a permanent deal for Crystal Palace defender Jeff Hughes. The full-back joined Rovers on loan in March, but an ankle injury prevented Hughes from making a first-team appearance. However, he could still secure a long-term contract with the League One club after being deemed surplus to requirements at Palace. Rovers boss Paul Trollope confirmed talks have taken place and he is now waiting for Hughes to resolve his situation at Selhurst Park. "We are still in talks with Jeff and the move is looking likely, but he still has to tie things up at the Palace end," Trollope told the Evening Post. "He wants to come here and we want him to come here, but until he sorts things out with Palace I don't know what sort of timescale we are talking about."
