Dickov hails Forrester

Harry Forrester earned the praise of manager Paul Dickov after his late goal gave Doncaster victory at York in the Capital One Cup.

The Yorkshire derby was heading for extra-time when, with just seconds remaining on the clock, substitute Forrester picked his spot to perfection from 20 yards out, curling an effort just inside the left-hand post. Following his side's 1-0 win, Rovers manager Dickov said: "He still needs games under his bet, but he's a very good footballer, very forward-thinking. "He's got a picture in his head of what he wants to happen and you saw that as soon as he came on tonight , and with the quality of the goal." Dickov was delighted to snatch the victory as Doncaster built on Saturday's opening-day 3-0 win at Yeovil, albeit with an unconvincing effort against League Two York who matched them stride for stride. "We want to win as many games as we can and it was a fantastic work out," added the Scot. "It was a tough game and full credit to York as they made it very difficult for us. "We played really well at Yeovil on Saturday, but it wasn't quite their tonight. However, we have found a way to win and that was the most important thing. "I would like to say it was our game plan to win it that late on as they couldn't come back, but it wasn't." York manager Nigel Worthington was left to rue a second successive last-minute heartbreaker following Saturday's 1-1 draw at Tranmere, where they conceded the equaliser four minutes into added-on time. The Minstermen created the better chances and were left frustrated by a superb performance by Jed Steer in the Rovers goal, who pulled off terrific second-half saves from Michael Coulson and Anthony Straker. "That's the difference between League One and League Two," said Worthington about Forrester's late strike. "We had a couple of good chances, but between blocks and saves we just couldn't score. "But we just have to keep at it and make sure the players keep believing. If they play like that they will win more games than not. "It was a huge disappointment not to get three points on Saturday and it was equally disappointing we did not stay in the cup as it would have been nice for the football club." York's Ryan Jarvis was carried off on a stretcher with 15 minutes left and Worthington added: "It looks like he has done his ankle ligaments in. Obviously there will have to be some clarification on that and we'll see what the damage is. He certainly won't be back in the next couple of weeks."
