Worthy wants new faces

York manager Nigel Worthington is hoping to complete "two or three" permanent new signings during the January transfer window.

The Minstermen have relied heavily on loan players so far this season and although they are expected to head back to their parent clubs in January, Worthington has scope within his budget to strengthen his squad. "The players we've had here on loan have done a very good job for us, but we've got to see who will still be here in January and reassess the situation," the former Northern Ireland coach said. "It's certainly something we're looking at, we've started to make plans although January is not always an easy period to bring in permanent players. "But we're certainly having a look across the board to see what we can do and if the right players becomes available, who tick all the right boxes, we'll be looking to do something. "We're working to our budget and hoping we can bring two or three in. "I've sat down with the chairman and we know exactly where we are at and what we need to do. "The funds are there, it's just a case of whether we can get the right personnel." Worthington has been linked with a bid to bring Adam Reed back to Bootham Crescent. The Burton midfielder scored twice in six games while on loan from Sunderland at the end of last season. Current York loanees Ben Davies (Preston), Luke O'Neill (Burnley), Ryan Brobbel (Middlesbrough) and Elliott Whitehouse (Sheffield United) are scheduled to return to their parent clubs in January.
