Poke backed to shine

Torquay goalkeeper Michael Poke has the potential to follow predecessor Bobby Olejnik to the Championship, according to Kenny Veysey.

The 27-year-old, back for a second spell at Plainmoor, has cemented his position as the Gulls' number-one having replaced Olejnik following his move to Peterborough. And goalkeeper coach Veysey says it has been obvious for years that Poke could make the step up to a higher level. "Even back in the Conference days, I always thought that Michael had the ability to play in the Championship," he told the Western Morning News. "He's just had a bit of bad luck in recent years, first with injury and then a move to Brighton that didn't really pay off. "He needed a couple of full seasons and once he gets that under his belt I think you will see even bigger improvements."
