Striker signs new two-year deal

Port Vale striker Marc Richards has signed a new two-year deal with the League Two outfit. The forward is the last of seven players offered new terms to agree to stay at Vale Park and his decision will hugely boost the club's hopes of promotion next term. Richards has been the Valiants' top goalscorer for the past two years and found the net a total of 22 times last season as they narrowly missed out on a play-off spot. The 27-year-old will put pen to paper later this week, and admitted it was the managerial ability of Micky Adams that saw him snub the advances of rival teams.

Standards

"I had talks with other clubs but the one factor that persuaded me to stay with Vale was Micky Adams," he told the club's official website. "He expects high standards from his players and that's no bad thing. We made real progress last season and everyone is really excited about what can happen next year." Vale duo Anthony Griffith and John McCombe have now officially put pen-to-paper on their new two-year contracts. Player of the Year Griffith and defender McCombe will now remain with the club until the summer of 2012.
