Scunthorpe United's on-loan defender Ben Gordon eventually hopes to make the left-back spot his own at Chelsea.
The 20-year-old has impressed during loan spells at Kilmarnock and now Scunthorpe this season, making 31 appearances for the two clubs combined.
However, back at Stamford Bridge there is stiff competition for places, with Ashley Cole, Ryan Bertrand and Patrick van Aanholt all ahead of him in the pecking order.
Gordon was rewarded with a new two-and-a-half year contract in January after returning from his loan stint at Kilmarnock and his current focus is on helping Scunthorpe avoid relegation.
Main aim
"Obviously, while I am there the main aim is to get into the side and make the left-back spot my own, but there are a few older players in the squad that play in that position so I might be slightly down the pecking order," Gordon told
skysports.com regarding his Chelsea ambitions.
"Whilst I am out on loan all I am concentrating on is helping Scunthorpe avoid relegation and leaving things at Chelsea until next year or even the year after.
"Chelsea offered me a new two-and-a-half year contract after I came back from a six-month loan spell at Kilmarnock, so I think that I showed Chelsea what I could do whilst I was up in Scotland.
"They rewarded me with a new deal, so they obviously were impressed and are keen to keep me there for the future."
