On-loan full-back aiming to catch teams up

Scunthorpe United's on-loan full-back Ben Gordon is confident they can still beat the drop this season. The Iron lost ground on Crystal Palace this week after tasting defeat at Barnsley on Tuesday night, whilst the Eagles extended the gap to four points by beating Cardiff. However, Scunthorpe still have a game in hand over their rivals and Gordon, who is loan until the end of the season from Chelsea, says they are determined to avoid relegation from the Championship this season. "I think that we have shown that during the games I've played, with a few good results and some clean sheets along the way," Gordon told skysports.com. "I've seen during training every day the amount of quality that we have in the dressing room here, so I am confident that we can stay up this season." The relegation battle is far from being a two-horse race for survival, though, with the likes of Middlesbrough, Derby and Coventry still within reach and Gordon has set his sights on catching those sides up too. He added: "The gaffer has been saying that we have got a few games in hand over the sides around us and if we win those we will have caught Palace up, but it isn't just about catching them up because there are a lot of others not too far away. "The likes of Derby, Middlesbrough and Doncaster can still be caught, so it isn't about just catching Crystal Palace up, but also the others just above them. "We don't want to just beat the drop by one place, but as many places as we can."
