Struggling League Two club Carlisle have sacked manager Graham Kavanagh.
The Cumbrians are still without a win in their opening five league matches this season, having picked up just two points.
Kavanagh had been in charge of Carlisle for a year, having replaced Greg Abbott at Brunton Park on 9 September 2013.
Carlisle are sitting one place above the relegation zone following Saturday’s 5-0 defeat by Cambridge.
Skipper captain Paul Thirlwell and goalkeeping coach Tony Caig have taken temporary charge of the first team ahead of Tuesday’s match with Accrington Stanley.
“The directors of Carlisle United Football Club held a series of discussions on Sunday which culminated in a meeting late on Sunday night with team manager Graham Kavanagh,” a statement from Carlisle read.
“Regretfully, it has been decided to dispense with Graham's services after a very difficult and disappointing start to the season.
“The board wish Graham Kavanagh and his family well for the future as they are certain his hard work, determination and coaching will yield reward.
“The process of finding a new team manager begins today.
“In the interim period club captain Paul Thirlwell and goalkeeping coach Tony Caig have agreed to take the training sessions and handle team selection matters in the coming days.”
