French side sign defender on permanent deal

Daniel Wass has signed a permanent deal with Evian Thonon Gaillard, after impressing on a season-long loan deal. The Denmark international made 29 appearances for the Ligue 1 side during 2011/12 after he joined from Benfica. The 23-year-old, who was part of Denmark's squad at Euro 2012, has signed a four-year contract at the Savoyards, and he hopes the move will benefit his career. "I am very happy," Wass said. "It's a small, but good club. The league is strong and I want to continue to make progress."

Team-mates

Meanwhile, Evian are also hoping to bring in Wass' international team-mates Michael Krohn-Dehli and Simon Poulsen. Krohn-Dehli scored twice in his country's three games at Euro 2012, whilst Poulsen was an ever-present in the Danes' defence. Evian sports director Pascal Dupraz said: "There are many clubs who want them and we are one of them."
Hopes
He also hopes to ensure the Danish influence will be four-strong at the French club by persuading Christian Poulsen to sign a new contract. "We have given him an offer and are waiting for his answer," Dupraz told Tipsbladet. "We are hoping that he will want to stay with us. We really want to keep him."
