Blackburn defender insists it was Kean's decision to leave him out

Gael Givet has denied claims that he 'refused to play' for Blackburn Rovers in Saturday's 3-0 defeat at Swansea City. The defender was omitted from the squad for the game at the Liberty Stadium, with manager Steve Kean subsequently claiming that Givet was 'not in the right frame of mind' to play. However, the Frenchman insists his exclusion from the side to face Swansea was down to Kean and that he was prepared to feature. "I wish to make it clear that I have never refused to play for Blackburn Rovers," said Givet in a statement. "It was the manager Steve Kean who decided which players would be selected." Givet has not played for Blackburn for over two months since being sent off in the 7-1 defeat at Arsenal at the start of February. He underwent heart surgery in December and the 30-year-old has made over 100 appearances for Blackburn since joining from Marseille in 2009.
