Montpellier go above PSG as Lyon stunned at home

Montpellier leapfrogged Paris St Germain at the top of the Ligue 1 table as Lyon suffered a shock home defeat at the hands of Caen. Auxerre picked up a point in their battle to avoid relegation, while Valenciennes secured a last-gasp victory at home over Nancy. Title hopefuls Montpellier produced an impressive second-half display to claim a 3-0 home win against Ajaccio and go above PSG on goal difference. Younes Belhamda broke the deadlock on 53 minutes and goals within the space of three minutes from Remy Cabella and Olivier Giroud put the game beyond Ajaccio's reach. Lyon remain 10 points adrift of the summit after slumping to a 2-1 home defeat by Caen, who boosted their survival hopes in the process. Romain Hamouma and Livio Nabab scored the goals for Caen, while Lisandro Lopez scored an 86th minute consolation from the penalty spot for Lyon. Rennes remain in the battle for a UEFA Champions League spot after a battling 1-0 home win over bottom club Sochaux. Recent signing Mevlut Erding scored the only goal on 16 minutes, while Rennes came close to a second when Vincent Pajot struck the crossbar. Lorient overcame the handicap of playing with 10 men for over an hour to snatch a 1-1 draw at Auxerre thanks to an injury-time equaliser. Willy Boly's goal gave Auxerre an 18th minute lead and, three minutes later, Lorient had goalkeeper Fabien Audard sent off for deliberate handball. However, with Auxerre seemingly hanging on for three points, Innocent Emeghara snatched a point for the visitors with an equaliser in the second minute of stoppage-time. Substitute Mamadou Samassa also scored in the second minute of stoppage-time as Valenciennes battled for a 1-0 home win over Nancy. On a day of late goals in Ligue 1, Brest were reliant upon a 93rd minute equaliser to rescue a 1-1 draw at home with Dijon. Gael Kakuta, on loan at Dijon from Chelsea, was denied by the crossbar five minutes before half-time before he gave the visitors the lead with 14 minutes left. Brest's task appeared to be beyond them when Issam Jemaa was sent off in the 90th minute, but Santiago Gentiletti was on hand to level deep into stoppage time.
