Frankfurt target striker from Bundesliga rivals

Eintracht Frankfurt are on the verge of completing a short-term deal for Schalke 04 striker Halil Altintop. The 27-year-old German-born Turkey international has a contract running with Schalke until the end of the season but a possible Bundesliga switch could be on the cards. Altintop, who has only played twice this term, has been at his current club since 2006 but Frankfurt executive chairman Heribert Bruchhagen says talks are ongoing. "We are in concrete talks with Schalke 04 and the player," he told Kicker-Sportmagazin. "The transfer has not yet taken place, but I am confident this will be taking place this month." Meanwhile, Eintracht midfielder Mehdi Mahdavikia has moved to Iranian side Steel Azin after 11 years in the Bundesliga. The 32-year-old, who has been capped more than 100 times for Iran, returns to his homeland having appeared in 255 matches in the German top-flight. Bruchhagen added: "Mehdi is a role model professional that has never given up, even though he was not always able to fulfil expectations. "We are wishing him all the very best, in every aspect."
