Alaves to land Dutruel

ALAVES are primed to pip Espanyol in the race for Richard Dutruel, leaving the Catalan club to firm up their interest in Arsenal goalkeeper Alex Manninger.

Barcelona shot-stopper Dutruel had been the main summer transfer target of Espanyol coach Juande Ramos but the Frenchman was not enamoured by their contract offer.

Dutruel is determined to end his Camp Nou misery and has agreed a three-year contract with Alaves, with his move expected to be completed on Friday.

Ramos is striving to entice two goalkeepers to the Montjuic with Manninger and Coventry City custodian Magnus Hedman the likely duo.

Espanyol are closing in on an agreement with Arsenal for the transfer of Manninger, with the Austrian having already settled on terms for a move to La Liga.

It is unclear whether Espanyol are lining up a loan or permanent swoop for Manninger but chief director Josep Luis Marco confirmed they were on the cusp of a resolution to the saga after a visit to London.

"The trip to London was very useful and beneficial," said Marco.

"We advanced with a much clearer objective in terms of closing the negotiations. Of all the options, there is one very, very good one.

"We have already reached an agreement with Manninger and we are hoping the documentation will arrive to be able to officially announce it."

If Manninger signs for Espanyol, Ramos is then likely to turn his attentions to wrapping up the capture of Swedish shot-stopper Hedman.

The 29-year-old has agreed a three-year deal with the Spanish side but Espanyol have yet to concur on a transfer fee with Coventry.

The Sky Blues want £3 million for Hedman and that is proving to be the stumbling block.
