Gael Kakuta has played down reports suggesting he could turn his back on France and switch allegiance to Congo.

Highly-rated winger has no plans to turn out for Congo

Gael Kakuta has played down reports suggesting he could turn his back on France and switch allegiance to Congo. The 20-year-old winger, who is currently on loan at Bolton from Chelsea, has represented the land of his birth at various youth levels. He is, however, of Congolese descent and qualifies to represent the African nation. New Leopards boss Claude Le Roy is keen to explore all avenues available to him and has admitted that he will look to select players who hold dual nationality. He had hoped to convince Kakuta that his international future lies away from France and has included him in his first preliminary squad.

No contact

The Trotters loanee is aware of his inclusion on that list, but insists that he remains fully committed to the Les Bleus cause. "I received phone calls congratulating me on my call-up, but since I have been 16 I have always played with French team," Kakuta told L'Equipe. "I don't see why I would suddenly change one day. "I don't know who started this but it is not going to happen. I have never had any contact with the Congo coach. "I only want to play for France."
