Who needs what?

Ahead of deadline day and the end of the transfer window, we take a club-by-club look at what is still needed, wanted and likely...

Ahead of deadline day and the end of the transfer window, we take a look at who needs what.

Arsenal

What they need? Arsene Wenger is hardly blessed with a wealth of options up front and, with Olivier Giroud his only real out-and-out striker, another marksman is surely high on his wish-list. Despite Giroud's scoring start to the season, you cannot help but question whether the Gunners really possess the firepower needed to achieve another top-four finish. Wenger has insisted that he will not be forced to delve into Arsenal's coffers purely to appease the fans, but the lack of star quality in front of goal remains clear to most. Arsenal are also a worry defensively, with Bacary Sagna's deployment at centre-back in the absence of Laurent Koscielny only serving to underline their lack of options. With regards to a goalkeeper, Wojciech Szczesny's early displays have hardly installed confidence amongst the Arsenal faithful and a more reliable, experienced figure between the sticks could still be an essential buy. Who have they been linked to? Where do we start? If you are a striker playing in Europe's top leagues and your name has not been linked with a switch to the Emirates Stadium this summer, you have probably been doing something wrong. First it was Gonzalo Higuain, then at Real Madrid, who appeared to be North London bound. When the Argentine eventually chose a move to Napoli, Arsenal then turned their sights to Luis Suarez and Wayne Rooney, both to no avail. Newcastle United midfielder Yohan Cabaye is the latest to attract Wenger's attention, but if a deal cannot be done, he will join an ever-growing list that includes the likes of Luiz Gustavo, Paul Pogba, Michu, Ashley Williams, Julio Cesar and David Villa as reported targets in what has been a summer bordering on the farcical for Wenger. What they will get? After making a bid for Cabaye which resulted in him missing Newcastle's opening two games, a deal for the Frenchman appears to be a real possibility. Suarez and Rooney look increasingly likely to remain at current clubs Liverpool and Manchester United respectively, so the signature of another striker could prove to be elusive with Wenger seemingly turning his attention to boosting his midfield. All indications coming from the Arsenal camp suggest that the bank will not be broken unnecessarily this summer and recent results seem to have eased the pressure slightly. QPR keeper Julio Cesar has been linked with a switch throughout the summer and, with Harry Redknapp desperate to reduce the wage bill at Loftus Road, a late loan move to Arsenal could suit both parties.

Aston Villa

What they need? Paul Lambert is one of the few Premier League managers blessed with a large squad at his disposal, albeit one without an abundance of top-flight experience. Lambert did the majority of his business in the infancy of the transfer window and early performances have shown Villa to be fairly well-equipped for the season. The use of Gabriel Agbonlahor and Andreas Weimann as wide men in a three-pronged attack suggests that a natural winger could be something which Villa still need to bring in to give Lambert the luxury of choice should he opt to use other systems against different opposition. Fabian Delph is starting to look like the midfielder Villa though they had first snapped up four years ago, but an experienced head would surely be welcomed too, as would some defensive cover for Matthew Lowton at right-back. Lambert wasted no time in shipping out Darren Bent and he may be forced to offload the likes of Stephen Ireland and Charles N'Zogbia before he is able to bring in any new faces. Who have they been linked to? In terms of speculation surrounding new arrivals, Villa have managed to go under the radar this summer, with names linked to the West Midlands club few and far between. In recent weeks, a move for Chesterfield midfielder Tendayi Darikwa has been speculated, although Spireites manager Paul Cook has since denied an offer being made for the 21-year old. The name of PSV Eindhoven's attacking midfielder, Giorginio Wijnaldum, has been circulating around a few Premier League sides, Villa included, but he has announced his intention to remain in Holland. Lambert's summer signings all arrived at Villa Park without too much speculation surrounding them, so any further arrivals could well make the move in a similar mould, although the Villa boss seems to be content with the squad he has assembled. What will they get? It seems highly unlikely that Lambert will be inclined to enter the transfer market before the window closes without one or two exits. An arrival from the lower-leagues or a prospect from abroad in line with Lambert's transfer policy may not be completely out of the picture, but it looks improbable that Villa Park will be a hive of activity come deadline day.

Cardiff City

What they need? Top flight experience and a bit of know-how can prove to be the difference between a team securing their Premier League status or returning to the league they spent so long trying to escape. Experience will therefore surely be a key factor in any of Malky Mackay's further signings, with a winger perhaps his top priority. The signings of Steven Caulker, Gary Medel and Andreas Cornelius have given the Bluebirds a sturdy spine and, with summer spending approaching the £30million mark, the majority of Cardiff's business appears to be already done. Who have they been linked to? The latest player rumoured to be set for a switch to South Wales is Ecuador international Jefferson Moreno. The 23-year old winger would take a substantial chunk out of Mackay's remaining budget should a deal be agreed with Mexican club Morelia. Another winger heavily linked with a move throughout the summer is Blackpool's Tom Ince. Again, Ince would command a decent fee but with his dad, Paul, at the helm at Bloomfield Road, he has indicated that he is happy to remain with the Seasiders. Meanwhile, the uncertain future of West Ham attacker Ricardo Vaz Te has seen him reported to have attracted the interest of Cardiff, but manager Sam Allardyce has denied that any bids have been made for him. What will they get? Vaz Te is the realistic option, possibly on loan, and he would add further competition for places up front. With Cornelius, Fraizer Campbell, Craig Bellamy, Nicky Maynard and Joe Mason already competing for a striking berth, however, adding another attacker is unlikely to be Mackay's main concern. Cardiff have money to spend and, in signing the likes of Caulker from Spurs already this summer, they have shown that they have the ambition and the clout to chase top players, meaning that the closing days of the transfer window could be hectic ones for the Welsh side.

Chelsea

What they need? Despite boasting a wealth of world-class attacking options, Chelsea still lack an out-and-out goalscorer. In Romelu Lukaku they have a Didier Drogba-esque striker who scored on a regular basis whilst on loan at West Brom last season but at 20 it is questioned whether he is yet ready for being tasked with firing Chelsea to glory as a main striker. The signing of Samuel Eto'o came out of left field, and does little more than muddy the waters. If Jose had the opportunity to splash out on another forward on deadline day (with Demba Ba possibly leaving the club), he would surely jump at the chance. Who have they been linked to? The biggest name of the lot would be Wayne Rooney. With Manchester United already rejecting two bids for the striker, Mourinho issued Rooney an ultimatum to hand in a transfer request to force a move to Stamford Bridge, but it now appears that the England striker has relaxed his ambition to leave Old Trafford. Another striker heavily linked with a summer move to Stamford Bridge is the Brazilian international Hulk. After starring for Brazil at the Confederations Cup in June it was suggested that Chelsea and Spurs were interested in bringing the powerful striker to the Premier League. The Zenit striker reportedly wants to leave the Russian club which has reportedly reignited interest from Chelsea but Zenit remain adamant their star man is not for sale. What will they get? With Mourinho's Rooney ultimatum seemingly backfiring, it may be that the club's business is done. A deal for Christian Atsu from Porto would be completely unnecessary, but seems likely. That may well be that unless Jose gets a sniff of a possible late deal.

Crystal Palace

What they need? Palace lack any real Premier League experience, and whilst Kevin Phillips does fit that bill he won't be the player to fire Palace to safety. They need to balance some experience in to a relatively young team, alongside more goals, if they are to make an impact this season. Ian Holloway must be looking at players with experience of playing in the top flight if they are to survive this season. A striker is needed as well as a midfielder who can handle the rigours of the top flight to play alongside the influential Mile Jedinak. Who have they been linked to? In recent days the Premier League new boys have been linked with a move for Arsenal striker Nicklas Bendtner, but it now appears even he will be required at the Emirates given the paucity options. Brief respite may arrive in the form of William Gallas. The defender is currently without a club following his departure from Spurs in the summer and reports are now suggesting Holloway could offer him a route straight back in to Premier League football. What will they get? Doubts remain about whether Palace have the financial clout to effect a meaningful change. Ian Holloway essentially has four days to recruit four or five names in all area of the pitch, but will surey find it tough going.

Everton

What they need? Everton have mastered the art of working with what they have over the years, and Roberto Martinez seems to be working on a similar brief. They have recruited well with Arouna Kone coming in to help provide goals, but their season looks to rest on what happens in the final few days of the transfer window. If they are to lose their two influential players in Leighton Baines and Marouane Fellaini to Manchester United, as is reported, then they will need to replace the pair with top quality players without breaking the status quo on the traditional Everton way. Who have they been linked to? As ever, the transfer window has been fairly quiet at Goodison Park this summer. Despite three or four signings early on as Martinez stamped his mark on the job, the window has again moved past without Everton ever really making an impact. One player they have been linked with recently is Wigan midfielder James McCarthy. The 22-year-old has been a shining light in a struggling Wigan team over the past couple of seasons and is now surprisingly playing Championship football. The midfielder would offer Everton a lot of quality in the middle of the park alongside Ross Barkley and Darron Gibson. What they will get? Despite Martinez denying the club have approached Wigan over the potential signing of McCarthy, he could be a player they try and take in the final few days of the transfer window. That aside, Everton will probably just hope to hold on to Baines and Fellaini and have to go with what they have.

Fulham

What they need? The signing of Dutch goalkeeper Maarten Stekelenburg is probably the most eye-catching of the signings and will replace the hole left by Mark Schwarzer. One piece of business that could turn out to be one of genius is the loan signing of Darren Bent from Aston Villa. Bent was happy to escape his Villa torment and now has the chance to rebuild his career in London and push to win his place back in the England squad. If Fulham are lacking in one area it would be at the back. Whilst Philippe Senderos and Brede Hangeland are more than capable of holding their own in the league, the depth in Fulham's defence is next to nothing, which could become a problem if and when injuries kick in. Who have they been linked to? This transfer window has seen Jol move quickly to get deals done. They have, however, been linked with Napoli midfielder Walter Gargano. The Uruguayan would offer that extra bit of class to the Fulham midfield but the signing of Scott Parker from Tottenham Hotspur could put pay to any move for Gargano, who spent last season on loan at Inter Milan. What will they get? Despite being linked with a move for Gargano, any deal for the 29-year-old seems to be just reports at the moment and it appears Jol is content at making do with the squad he has. They do need a defender or two but the former Spurs manager is not one to make a signing for the sake of it and will show confidence in Aaron Hughes, Senderos and Hangeland to perform ably at the back, at least until January.

Hull City

What they need? Hull need goals. They have made some good signings all over the pitch with Curtis Davies, Tom Huddlestone and Danny Graham all moving to the KC Stadium this summer. However, the signing of Graham will only go so far in terms of getting goals and Hull failed to set the scoring charts alight in the Championship last season and very nearly missed out on promotion on the final day. One positive about the players Steve Bruce has brought in to his squad is the Premier League experience. Davies and Huddlestone offer this in abundance, as well as Spurs loanee Jake Livermore. On this occasion though, experience doesn't bring the much-needed goals to the Hull side and this is an area Bruce must be looking to strengthen further. Who have they been linked to? Brighton striker Ashley Barnes has been on Bruce's radar in recent weeks but the Championship club have offered the striker a new deal in the hope he will stay to fire them to the Premier League. The 23-year-old has been linked with many Championship clubs and Bruce seems to want to give the striker a chance at playing in the Premier League. If Hull were to make a move for the former Plymouth player then there would be expectation for instant goals which is something being questioned about the striker. His form seems to be hit and miss so the question would be whether Hull can afford to take the risk on such a signing. What will they get? With the news coming out of Hull suggesting big striker Nick Proschwitz could be about to leave, the Tigers need to go out and find a goalscorer if they are to compete. Graham will get in on the act with a run of games but Bruce needs to find him some assistance, especially with Yannick Sagbo's temperament called into question after his red card in the win over Norwich. Bruce will bring in a striker if he wants to compete on his side's return to the Premier League but other than that Hull showed in their opening two games that, with Huddlestone and Livermore in the midfield, they can compete with the best, they just need the cutting edge when it comes to putting the chances away.

Liverpool

What they need? Now that it seems Luis Suarez is set to stay, Liverpool's striker worries are no more with Daniel Sturridge starting the season in good scoring form. The attention of Brendan Rodgers must now be turning to the midfield with the club lacking a Xabi Alonso-esque player. The signings of Iago Aspas and last season Philippe Coutinho have bolstered the attacking options at Anfield but, with the fitness of Lucas questionable, and the form of Joe Allen also being doubted, Rodgers should be looking to bring in a 'marquee' signing to really give the midfield some added class to go alongside captain Steven Gerrard. Who have they been linked to? Despite having strength at the back in Daniel Agger, Martin Skrtel and now Kolo Toure, Liverpool have continued to be linked with Schalke centre-back Kyriakos Papadopoulos. The 21-year-old has already been watched by big European cubs such as AC Milan, Arsenal and Manchester United, and he has a growing reputation in both Germany and his homeland of Greece. At such a young age he has already made himself a regular in the Greece side and has scored four goals in 16 appearances for his national team. This one will definitely be one to watch out for. Away from the back four, Rodgers has also been reported to be looking at the possibility of bringing Chelsea winger Victor Moses to the club to bring competition to the attacking line. What will they get? Rodgers has made some good signings so far this summer but now it doesn't seem like he is in a rush to continue spending in the final few days of the window. If a move is to come about then it could be Papadopoulos whose name refuses to go away when Liverpool are mentioned. A formal bid is yet to be made but if the interest is real then Rodgers will go in and get his man before the window closes.

Manchester City

What they need? City have once again spent the most money so far this summer with the high-profile signings of Jesus Navas, Alvaro Negredo, Stefan Jovetic and Fernandinho but activity has slowed around the Etihad in recent weeks. If City were to add more players than their defence would probably be the area to fix. The defeat to Cardiff opened up a few weaknesses in the City defence and, with captain Vincent Kompany picking up a knee injury, the defence only gets weaker. If they were to recruit new players in the final few days then a centre-back could well be the way they go. Who have they been linked to? Sticking with the centre-back theme, PSG defender Mamadou Sakho has been heavily linked with a move away from the French capital. The Ligue 1 champions want to 23-year-old to stay but, with the big-money signing of Marquinhos earlier in the summer, it is reported that the French international could be available for £8 million, something that could easily tempt City into a move. Atletico Madrid defender Martin Demichelis, who played under Manuel Pellegrini at Malaga, has been tipped to move to City. What will they get? Can anyone ever really predict anything to do with Manchester City in the transfer market? With only a few days to go, and the excitement of deadline day builds, City will probably be readying themselves to come alive in the final few hours.

Manchester United

What they need? With Darren Fletcher's return unknown and Paul Scholes retiring, United lack real quality in depth in the middle of the park. In Michael Carrick they have a world-class ball player but after that they need more quality in their midfield if they are to challenge Chelsea and Manchester City for the title. Anderson's career at Old Trafford has been somewhat underwhelming and, whilst Tom Cleverley continues to improve, he doesn't have the same qualities that Scholes possessed. Who have they been linked to? This summer has seen David Moyes' men linked to a number of world-class players but they are still to bring in anyone of note. Moyes realises he lacks quality in the midfield area and has attempted to rectify this by almost bringing Spanish midfielder Thiago Alcantara to the club before he chose to join European champions Bayern Munich. He then moved on to former Arsenal star Cesc Fabregas but his bids were rebuffed and it now seems that chase is also over and the midfielder will be staying at Barcelona. The biggest name that won't go away though is Cristiano Ronaldo. A return to Old Trafford has been talked about almost since the day he left for Madrid and rumours began to circulate quickly after it was revealed Antonio Valencia had given up the number seven shirt for the coming season. Everton duo Leighton Baines and Marouane Fellaini have also been linked with a reunion with their former manager. What will they get? A midfielder or two is a must if United want to successfully defend their title as rivals City and Chelsea have bolstered their midfield areas extremely well. Once again though, like City, United are a club who often surprise when it comes to the final days of the transfer window. The likelihood is that either Baines or Fellaini will join, and it is possible Moyes could secure both of his former players.

Newcastle United

What they need? Newcastle need signings to stop a similar situation to last season happening again. Alan Pardew is yet to make a major signing of note with only Loic Remy coming in on loan from relegated Queens Park Rangers and fans are becoming increasingly frustrated with the lack of activity. Since the departure of Demba Ba, goals have dried up for Pardew's men and this is something he will be looking to rectify before the end of the transfer window. If they lose Yohan Cabaye to Arsenal then they will need a midfield playmaker to come in to take over from the job he did. A defender at St James' Park wouldn't go amiss either. Pardew has a job on his hands to fix his squad up in the final few days of the window. Who have they been linked to? Bafetimbi Gomis is a player who Pardew has chased for most of the summer and it seemed for a while the deal had gone dead. However, Gomis is holding renewed talks with the cub over a possible move to the north east so Newcastle fans will be hoping their goal worries could soon be eased. Another striker linked with a move to Newcastle is Chelsea's Ba. It is reported that the club are looking to re-sign the striker after his switch to Stamford Bridge has not worked out as the player would have hoped. What will they get? The fact Gomis is again talking to Pardew and Newcastle suggests a possible deal is more than likely and his goals could help the Magpies move up the table once again after a poor start to the season. If Gomis doesn't arrive, then Pardew will surely bring another striker in, but whether that will be Ba remains to be seen. A midfielder and a defender could also mean Newcastle will be busy in the final days of the window. They need to strengthen drastically if they are to stop the rot of last season.

Norwich City

What they need? Norwich have spent big this summer on quality to help lift them away from the relegation fight they were almost dragged into last season. Leroy Fer and Ricky van Wolfswinkel would be the two most notable signings which add much needed firepower in the midfield and up top. Exciting is probably the word to describe many of the Norwich signings when you add Nathan Redmond and Gary Hooper to the mix but again, these are attacking options. Norwich need strength in numbers at the back. A fter shipping out many of the players who had helped them to the point they're at, such as Elliott Ward and Leon Barnett, they could do with adding some steel to their defensive options. Who have they been linked to? Chris Hughton is another manager who has just got on with getting his deals completed with minimal fuss this summer. For this reason rumours and links regarding Norwich have been few and far between of late. One name that is gathering pace, however, is that of Australian winger James Troisi. He is a player Hughton knows well as he spent time at Newcastle with the Norwich manager until his departure in 2008. Currently at Atalanta, Troisi is a player Hughton appears to rate and, apart from the obvious defensive needs, the winger could come in to provide cover for the injured Elliott Bennett. What will they get? Not much more is the general consensus. A defender could well come in but Hughton does seem to be happy with his squad after admitting that, despite the big-money signings, he is still keen to utilise the players already at his disposal. Hughton feels the core of the squad is good enough to compete, so more big-name signings could be out of the picture. They may continue their usual style of business and bring in one or two young stars to break into the first team from the lower leagues.

Southampton

What they need? One of the biggest spenders this year, Southampton have strengthened their squad greatly. Big-money signings such as Daniel Osvaldo from Roma and Victor Wanyama from Celtic have bolstered an already competitive first team. If Southampton need to do anything, they need to cut the number of fringe players in their squad to bring in a bit more quality in depth. Players like Billy Sharp are still on the Southampton wage bill but are not really going to get near to pushing players out of the first-team squad. Who have they been linked to? Another team who have been swift in the market this summer, the south coast club have not messed around when it comes to doing their business. Recent links have gone quiet as it seems Mauricio Pochettino is now happy with the shape of his squad after he competed most of his business early on with little problems. However, one name who could be about to land at St Mary's is Porto defender Abdoulaye Ba as they look to add to their defensive line. Southampton are becoming a side that players see as a team that can challenge for European football which could be the reason why they are an attractive proposition. What will they get? The Ba link has only recently come about so that could be one to keep an eye on as Pochettino looks to bring in a defender as his fourth signing of the summer. Other than the possibility of a defender, Southampton will probably be in for a fairly quiet last few days of the transfer window as they look to utilise what quality they already have at their disposal.

Stoke City

What they need? New manager Mark Hughes will be looking to continue to try and change the face of the club. After years of the negative "long ball" stereotype, Hughes has brought in quality players so far this summer in Marc Muniesa and Erik Pieters. Hughes is looking to keep Stoke away from the relegation dogfight they found themselves in last season and, to do that, the Potters need goals. Whilst Peter Crouch has scored goals wherever he has been, Stoke have struggled to find that prolific striker to fire them back up the league table. Who have they been linked to? Attacking options seem to be the way Hughes is looking to go in the market this summer with QPR's Junior Hoilett and West Brom's Peter Odemwingie linked with moves to the Britannia, however the club are keeping quiet over these suggestions. Hughes has also reportedly made a £5million move for Werder Bremen striker Aaron Hunt in the hope he could be the man to put away the chances new signing Oussama Assaidi could help provide. What will they get? It seems certain that Stoke will sign at least one striker before the deadline passes. They are notoriously a club who enjoy the hectic nature of deadline day and like to get business done right up until the final few seconds. It will be worth watching out for the Hunt transfer amid reports a bid has been made for the German striker. The future of Odemwingie also rumbles on at West Brom and Stoke could offer the escape route he so clearly craves as well as offering Premier League football.

Sunderland

What they need? After 11 signings have arrived at the Stadium of Light already this summer, Paolo Di Canio will probably feel his squad is about taking shape to take on the current season. Di Canio landed something of a coup when he signed Emanuele Giaccherini. They are, however, lacking in depth at the back, much like many other teams. After a poor end to last season, Di Canio must be looking to bring in a defender or two to sure up his back line. With the future of Phil Bardsley in question, midfielder Jack Colback has been playing in a right-back role and, with Wes Brown and John O'Shea the only defenders offering any real Premier League experience in the back four, the Italian could be forced into the market to reinforce. Who have they been linked to? It appears Di Canio is looking to stay at Sunderland for the long haul as it is reported he is keeping tabs on Dundee United duo Ryan Gauld, 17, and John Souttar, 16, as potential signings. Di Canio seems to want to build a squad to compete in years to come and the highly-rated Scots are players that fit the bill. Other than the youngsters, the Italian is keeping his cards close to his chest when it comes to potential targets but has admitted he will spend up until the final few seconds if the right players are there to do so. Reports are suggesting that Di Canio's left-back worries could be about to end with the club reportedly battling with Rennes to sign Toulouse defender Cheikh M'Bengue, while Juventus' Paolo De Ceglie has also been linked. What will they get? With Bardsley and Stephane Sessegnon's futures at the cub in some doubt, and star striker Steven Fletcher struggling with injury, Di Canio could be looking to bring in at least three players to replace and cover this trio. His side is without a recognised left-back or an enforcer in midfield so the final few days could get interesting in the north east. The M'Bengue move could be one Di Canio forces through as a left-back is an essential position to fill in Sunderland's depleted backline.

Swansea City

What they need? Michael Laudrup's men need more firepower up front. The signing of Wilfried Bony has helped in the goals department but he remains Swansea's only real striking option as the transfer deadline closes in. The Dane has publicly admitted he is looking to bring in a striker to help out Bony and Michu. As well as incomings, Swansea need to keep hold of key players if they are to challenge for a European spot this season. The club have stated that they have received no bids for Michu and captain Ashley Williams, and Laudrup will be hoping it stays that way. Who have they been linked to? Strikers are the requirement at the Liberty Stadium and Laudrup is in the queue to sign troubled West Brom striker Peter Odemwingie. The Nigerian striker's time at the Hawthorns is all but over, with Swansea and Stoke both reportedly considering him as a potential signing. Laudrup has confirmed an interest in Alvaro Vazquez, amid reports in Spain that claim a bid of around £2.5million has been submitted for the Getafe striker. What will they get? It's almost certain that Laudrup will bring a striker in and it wouldn't be surprising if the Spanish reports over the potential signing of Vazquez are true. The Spanish market has been good to the Swans since their rise to the top flight and for the reported £2.5 million they could have yet another bargain on their hands. Odemwingie will be moving in this window if West Brom want to recoup any of the money they paid for him so this could also be a move to watch out for.

Tottenham Hotspur

What they need? The general consensus is that Gareth Bale is about to join Real Madrid for a world record fee. If, and when, this happens, Spurs have already set about spending the money with Erik Lamela coming in for a club record fee reported to be up to £30million. They have spent big in attacking areas but, after they let William Gallas leave on a free transfer and Steven Caulker join Premier League new-boys Cardiff City, the club are severely lacking in the defensive third. Michael Dawson and Jan Vertonghan remain their only two real centre-back options with Younes Kaboul still returning from injury so the back four at White Hart Lane looks bare to say the least. It's an area they need to recruit in if they are to challenge for the top four this season. Who have they been linked to? To rectify their defensive frailties, Spurs have been linked with a move for PSG defender Mamadou Sakho who could be available for around £8 million according to reports. The French international appears to have fallen down the order at PSG with the recent signing of Marquinhos pushing him out of first team contention. Away from the defensive area, Ajax playmaker Christian Eriksen is being lined up to arrive at the club as they get ready for life without Gareth Bale. What will they get? The Christian Eriksen deal appears to be edging closer so another attacking player looks to be entering the fray at White Hart Lane. If Spurs are wanting to challenge for a top four finish, if not the title, then Andre Villas Boas will need to definitely bolster his defensive options with one or two centre-backs. In Danny Rose they have a potentially great left-back and cover is available in the form of Vertonghen and the right side is filled with Kyle Walker. Spurs need to focus on sorting out their central defence problems is their new attacking prowess is to be effective.

West Bromwich Albion

What they need? A goalkeeper is needed at the Hawthorns to cover for injured England international Ben Foster who will miss 12 weeks of the season with a broken foot picked up in the 0-0 draw at Everton. Apart from this inconvenience, Steve Clarke has again assembled a side capable of a comfortable season after bringing in top quality players like Diego Lugano and Scott Sinclair to add to their already strong squad. Nicolas Anelka will offer the goals now his future has been talked over and former Watford man Matej Vydra will chip in with his own share. Who have they been linked to? Since the injury to Foster it was clear that Clarke would dip in to the market for a goalkeeper but the question was raised over who could come in to be a first-choice selection. Stoke City keeper Jack Butland is the name which has emerged as the favourite to take the gloves in a loan deal as they wait for Foster to return. It would be a move that suits all parties as West Brom get a top-class goalkeeper and Butland can leave Stoke to get regular football. With the form of Asmir Begovic meaning Butland's chances at Stoke have been limited, the Potters will also want the young England international to be playing games on a regular basis. Marseille duo Morgan Amalfitano and Jordan Ayew have also been linked with a move to the Hawthorns. What will they get? There isn't much noise coming out of the Hawthorns in terms of deals to be done so, as we enter the final few days of the transfer window, Clarke will only really dip into the market if injuries like the one to Foster force his hand. They will more than likely bring in a keeper with Butland possibly being the one to join on loan.

West Ham United

What they need? West Ham are one of the many teams who need to strengthen in the striker department. Although they have already made the loan signing of Andy Carroll a permanent one, the Hammers lack a great amount of pace up top. Sam Allardyce's men do have something many teams don't in goals from midfield with Joe Cole, Kevin Nolan and new signing Stewart Downing more than capable of chipping in with a few. At least one more striker will be needed if Ricardo Vaz Te's transfer request is granted. If he leaves then the hole will need to be filled to give Allardyce options up front. Pace is something they need to bring in to the side but apart from that the Hammers seem set for another successful season in the Premier League. Who have they been linked to? Allardyce has been reported to be looking to rectify the lack of pace in his strike force by targeting former Chelsea striker Saloman Kalou to bring to Upton Park. However, the Ivory Coast international has stated he is happy in France at current cub Lille. West Ham can offer Kalou a return to the Premier League though which could tempt him back to England. What will they get? Allardyce will probably be looking to bring in a striker or two to cover the possible departure of Vaz Te and the right offer could well see Saloman Kalou return to the Premier League after he left Chelsea in 2012.
