Clough: One of those days

Nigel Clough criticised Sheffield United for making "too many poor decisions" after their 1-1 draw at relegation-threatened Crawley.

Defender Richard Wood, on loan from Rotherham and making his home debut for Crawley, headed the hosts in front against the run of play in the 63rd minute following a free-kick by Anthony Wordsworth. United's pressure finally paid off nine minutes from time when McNulty kept his cool to slot his 12th goal of the season after Crawley skipper Ryan Dickson had brought down Matty Done. The result stretches United's unbeaten run to six games, but Clough felt it was very much a case of two points dropped. He said: "We had chances to win, but we lacked the killer ball and picked the wrong passes. "We made the wrong decisions too many times. It was one of those days, but at least we got a point. "It was a frustrating day as we played well at times and a point was the least we deserved." United are now nine points behind second-placed MK Dons, but Clough does not feel the margin is "insurmountable". He added: "Being nine points behind is not insurmountable. We've kept our unbeaten run going and we will see where we are in a week's time." Clough felt Dickson could have been sent off for his challenge on Done for the penalty, while he also reckoned Izale McLeod was fortunate to stay on the pitch when he had earlier tangled with the on-rushing Jay McEveley. Crawley boss Dean Saunders admitted that McLeod was lucky but was more disappointed with the manner in which his side conceded the equaliser. Saunders said: "It was an awful goal to give away. The keeper banged the ball up the pitch and it's about discipline and people smelling danger. It is a mistake. "Sheffield United are a good side and they want to win the league but we conceded ground after a good start. "The players are devastated and that is a good sign; we've come a long way and that's good news for the fans and the players. "Our players are doing great and we look like we can't get beaten at the moment. The draw keeps our run going and the players are all trying." Saunders revealed that central defender Joe Walsh is poised to join League One rivals MK Dons on loan having had a medical. He added: "I'm sorry to see Joe go but I will look forward to seeing how he develops. "We've won two and drawn one without him and his move is why I brought Richard Wood in. "Richard responded by scoring a great goal and doing well on his home debut."
