Gregory thrilled at progression

Crawley boss John Gregory was delighted his side progressed in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy with a 1-0 win at Luton.

Winger Gwion Edwards notched the winner to round off a fine few days after being called up to the full Wales squad. Gregory said: "He (Edwards) gave it some violence, when Matty Harrold hit the bar, he only had one thing on his mind, to put it in the net. It would have taken the goalie with it had he got in the way of it. "Luton had a lot of changes but they have a huge squad, I think they've got about 35 professionals, they were able to give some players a game and unfortunately we missed seeing Andy Drury play. "But we came here with the intention of winning, we played some good stuff, I'd have liked to see us put the game to bed a lot earlier. "It took us a little while to get the first goal and we should have been ahead on the opportunities we had in the first half. We had lots of offensives play which I was really pleased with and played some really good football. "It broke down a bit in the final third, but football's about winning, my team's all about winning, we've come to a difficult place to play and won 1-0." Edwards had come closest in the first half as his long range snapshot was clawed out by Elliot Justham. Luke Guttridge was then denied by the post, before Crawley went ahead as Edwards hammered in from close range after Matt Harrold hit the crossbar. Town substitute Charlie Walker then rattled the other bar with a lob and with time running out Guttridge came within inches of forcing penalties with a piledriver that beat Brian Jenson but crashed against the woodwork. Town's first team coach Hakan Hayrettin thought his side were unlucky not to force a penalty shoot-out at least after hitting the woodwork on three occasions. He added: "It was a close game, we acquitted ourselves very well and had a few good chances. "Importantly for us, people got minutes under their belt, it was a good performance, but the result didn't go our way. "We worked the keeper very well and hit the post three times, which is unfortunate for us. "It was there for the crowd to see how well we played. It was a game where one goal could have won it and they got it. "I was disappointed how we concede the goal, but thought we were very unfortunate not to get something, to press them how we did and the manner in which we did, nearly came off for us."
