Crawley's Paul Connolly has been suspended for five matches, the Football Association have announced.

The defender, who can appeal, was charged with violent conduct after an incident involving a Brentford fan in the dying seconds of their 1-0 defeat last Tuesday which was not seen by the match officials but caught on video. The Independent Regulatory Commission hearing took place on Tuesday and they went in favour of the FA. "The FA claimed the standard punishment of a three-match suspension would be clearly insufficient given the nature of the offence," a statement on the FA's website said. "Connolly accepted the charge but denied the standard punishment was clearly insufficient. "However, the Independent Regulatory Commission found in favour of The FA and ordered that Connolly be suspended for five matches, commencing with immediate effect."
