Assistant manager Paul Raynor believes Rotherham will soon see the best of Matt Tubbs.
The Millers finally ended a year-long chase for the 29-year-old in July when they landed him on a six-month loan from Bournemouth, but he is yet to make an impact at New York. He has failed to score in his 10 appearances, the majority of which have come from the bench and has fallen behind Daniel Nardiello in the pecking order. But, having not had any pre-season, Raynor believes the forward is nearing his peak. "He is looking sharp, he missed an awful lot of pre-season," Raynor said. "He hadn't played a competitive game since March when he arrived and that is a long, long time without any football. "We always knew that he was going to be short on fitness. But he is getting sharper, he scored a couple of goals in a behind-closed-doors game at Sheffield Wednesday recently and that will do his confidence good. "You can see a real difference in him, and it is encouraging. "He is working very hard after training and that is credit to Matt that he wants to do that."
