Saints boss spurred on Seagulls

Image: Dicker: Motivated by Adkins's comment

Gary Dicker claims the words of Southampton manager Nigel Adkins inspired Brighton's impressive promotion charge.

The Seagulls moved 13 points clear at the top of League One courtesy of Saturday's 2-1 win over Swindon. Yet after Saints' 0-0 with draw with Brighton back in November, Adkins claimed the Seagulls would win promotion if they could keep up with his side. And Dicker said: "We had a bit of motivation during the warm-up when (coach) Charlie Oatway reminded us of the comments made by Southampton's manager. "Back in November he said to the press we would go up this season if we could keep up with them. I don't think we have ever been chasing them, but when you hear stuff like that it gives us an extra bit of motivation."
