Huddersfield manager Lee Clark has announced that Mark McChrystal will not be offered a contract with the club.
The 25-year-old defender has been on trial with the Terriers for the past three weeks and had hoped to earn a deal.
Clark has been impressed with the attitude of the former Partick Thistle man but has now decided to drop his interest.
"We looked at Mark McChrystal for a while as he was with us for around three weeks, but we won't be pursuing him any further," Clark told the club's official website.
"He's a great lad and I wouldn't have any hesitation in recommending him to somebody else if they call me.
"I know he has caught the attention of other clubs while he has been with us, but he just isn't what I'm looking for at this moment in time."
Clark has yet to make a decision on fellow trialist Mat Sadler, who played for the reserves against Grimsby in midweek.
"We are still looking at him and I am talking it over with the coaching staff. We will see where we go with that one over the next few days."
