Connolly eyes Plough Lane return

David Connolly admits playing for AFC Wimbledon at Plough Lane again would be the icing on the cake after securing a return to the club.

The 37-year-old striker is back with the Wombles, having scored 42 goals in 63 games for them between 2001 and 2003, and is supporting #BringTheDonsHome campaign. Wimbledon want to move to a new stadium near their former ground, with plans put before Merton Council to develop the current greyhound track site. "It would be great for us to go back to Plough Lane," Connolly told www.yourlocalguardian.co.uk. "We haven't done too badly playing at Kingsmeadow but obviously moving back would be the utopia for the club so fingers crossed that will happen. "It's a great story, the phoenix rising from the flames really, so great credit should go to everyone at the club. "Obviously for every new stadium there is going to be opposition because of the disruption it will cause but I think it is key for AFC Wimbledon to be playing in Wimbledon. "From my point of view, and the club, it would be brilliant for us to be back there and I'm sure it would kick the club on."
