Ainsworth lauds Wycombe show

Wycombe manager Gareth Ainsworth believes his side's 2-0 victory over AFC Wimbledon was the "complete performance".

After a quiet first half, the League Two leaders burst into the lead on 51 minutes as Josh Scowen raced onto Steven Craig's flicked header to slot home his first goal of the season. And with 20 minutes left Sam Wood nodded home Craig's cross-cum-shot to stretch Wycobe's unbeaten league run to ten games, with Ainsworth struggling to remember a better performance from his league-leaders this term. "It was brilliant to see, it was a really complete performance," he said. "It's great to hear that Neal [Ardley] thinks we were the best team. "We really limited a great strike-force who are proven in the league this season. It's not a fluke because it's something we work on day in, day out. "Defensively we worked really hard this week and it came off. It's great to see it come off when it does. "And it was all down to the sheer resilience of my players, I couldn't have asked for much more from them. "This is a group that's coachable and easy to motivate. "Steven Craig was a warrior out there for us. He'll take some batterings but it's all for the team. I hope people watched what Stevie did." As for AFC Wimbledon, defeat at Adams Park was their first loss in four games as they struggled to break down a resolute home defence. And Dons boss Neal Ardley admitted that his side had been beaten by the better team on the day. "I thought this was poor from us but that's not to take credit away from them - they are top of the league for a reason and they thoroughly deserved the win here and they really showed what they are about. "It didn't suit us, the game. We were always going to be up against it and it was always going to be difficult but it just didn't suit us. "He'll [Ainsworth] have done his homework. I thought their two centre-backs coped with possibly the best strike-force in the league really well and if you do that you deserve to win. "I've got no complaints with the result and while I am obviously disappointed I can't really complain. "We were poor because they were good, it is as simple as that. They deserved to win and we have to move on now." Breaking news, transfer gossip, line ups and goal alerts from your football club - delivered direct to your mobile. Sign up for Sky Sports Alerts
