Cooper's delight at win

Hartlepool United boss Colin Cooper revealed his pride after their first win of the season.

Marlon Harewood's winner ended a run of four straight defeats after Charlie Wyke had cancelled out Matt Tubbs' early opener. It eased the pressure on under-fire Cooper as Pools moved up to 19th in the early League Two table. "We wanted to show character and we did. We put our bodies on the line," said Cooper. "It's a starting point doing that. A million miles from perfection, but it's a start. We have conceded really poor goals this season, but we started to turn it around. They will now feel better about themselves. "Neil Ardley has not felt this way this season yet, I have and now it's his turn. We have to try and kick -on. "There was determination and a spirit. Marlon, I keep asking for more and there's more to give. He became a colossus for us. "A lot of players gave their all which is very satisfying as a manager. "I want that from Marlon, we want him fired up. You don't play in the Premier League and command transfer fees like he has throughout his career without having ability and determination to succeed." But Hartlepool did it the hard way, as they fell behind on ten minutes - Sean Rigg picked out striker Tubbs and he was left unmarked to pick his spot and roll his finish past goalkeeper Scott Flinders. But seconds into the second half, Pools levelled as Ryan Brobbel's free-kick ballooned up and striker Charlie Wyke was inside the six-yard box to head in after signing on loan from Middlesbrough on Friday. And they won it as Brobbel tore down the left on 68 minutes to roll the ball into Harewood's feet, and he turned past two defenders and placed his finish low past keeper James Shea. "We take some positives, the first half was good but we needed a second goal and had enough chances," said Wimbledon boss Neal Ardley. "But there are no excuses for the first 25 minutes of the second half. They have had a rocket from the manager and came out fired up. "It's a car crash for the first goal, one mistake leads to another. "We have had a good week away from home, which makes this more disappointing. We were on the front foot and ahead and threw it away. "It all started from our kick off, there's no composure, we have to defend better and then it's 1-1. Instead of rolling our sleeves up, I saw a raise in tempo from Hartlepool and we went the other way. "We are so disappointed and it's about taking responsibility on the pitch - lead by example.
