Newport v Wimbledon postponed

Image: Rodney Parade: Pitch unplayable

The League Two clash between Newport and AFC Wimbledon at Rodney Parade has been postponed due to a waterlogged pitch.

A match official inspected the surface at 1pm on Tuesday afternoon and deemed it unplayable, despite the best efforts of the club's staff and volunteers. Sandbags were placed surrounding the affected half of the pitch on Monday before covers also arrived to protect from further rain, with work going on throughout the night. But it has not been enough to salvage the fixture between the two play-off hopefuls and it will now be rearranged for a later date. County have managed to play just one home game since mid-December, with the initial scheduled meeting against AFC Wimbledon on December 21 also postponed due to a waterlogged pitch. The Exiles saw Friday night's home clash against Fleetwood ruled out due to the adverse weather conditions, along with January matches against Plymouth, Dagenham and Oxford.
