Barrett: Gills must bounce back

Skipper Adam Barrett has urged Gillingham to recover quickly from Monday night's disappointing home defeat to Wycombe.

The promotion-chasing Gills passed up the chance to reclaim top spot in League Two with the 1-0 reverse and then fell four points behind leaders Port Vale, albeit with a game in hand, after their 3-0 success over AFC Wimbledon on Tuesday. Martin Allen's side are going through a sticky patch having won just four of their previous 11 league matches, while they have picked up just five points from the last 21 on offer at Priestfield. Reflecting on the Wycombe loss, centre-back Barrett told the club's official website: "As a team we are disappointed to come away with a defeat - it was our chance to go top and we haven't taken it so we are going to have to bounce back. "We have got to take a lot of positives, we want to get the home form back on track but we will go again Saturday and look to get a result." Gillingham travel to Capital One Cup finalists Bradford on Saturday and will stay in Yorkshire ahead of their clash at York next Tuesday. A positive points return would certainly put the Kent club back on track and Barrett knows the Gills remain in a great position to realise their promotion dream - eight points clear of the play-offs with two games in hand over fourth-placed Burton. He said: "We don't want to look at it with doom and gloom - we want to put the home form right, we won the last one (before Wycombe, a 2-0 win over Northampton) but we are having a fantastic season and we have to bounce back Saturday. "It's a massive game, we have 17 of them to go and we want to make sure we get promoted this year so we need to roll our sleeves up, pick the bones out of it and go again. We are in a great position."
